La primera cinta en el universo cinematográfico de Marvel fue Iron Man (2008), que fue distribuida por Paramount Pictures. El mismo estudio también distribuyó Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011) y Capitán América: el primer vengador (2011), mientras Universal Pictures se encargó de The Incredible Hulk (2008). Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures comenzó a distribuir las películas con el crossover The Avengers,​ que concluyó la Fase Uno de la franquicia.

La fase 2 incluye Iron Man 3 (2013), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Guardianes de la Galaxia (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), y Ant-Man (2015).

Capitán América: Civil War (2016) es la primera película en la fase 3 de la franquicia, seguida por Doctor Strange (2016), Guardianes de la Galaxia Vol. 2 (2017), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), Capitana Marvel (2019) y Avengers: Endgame (2019).

La fase 4 iniciará con Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).
